Case Overview

On November 19, 2024, the Associated Students of the University of Wyoming voted to pass a resolution recommending the university cut its student media fee–and therefore, funding to student publications–by 75 percent. During the meeting, numerous senators cited concerns with the newspaper’s content and staffing decisions before sending the resolution to the university’s Central Fee Committee. On November 27, FIRE wrote UW explaining that it can not cut funding to student publications based on the student government’s content-discriminatory resolution and urged it to maintain the funding.
