After a congressional hearing regarding anti-Semitism on campus, Yale President Peter Salovey announced on December 7, 2023, that calls for the genocide of Jews are “harassing, intimidating, and discriminatory” and violate Yale’s campus policies on discrimination and harassment. He also stated Yale would punish “individuals culpable of such speech.” On December 13, FIRE wrote Yale explaining that fleeting, untargeted political statements, without more, are protected under First Amendment standards, and calling on the university to hold fast to its commitment to these standards. Yale failed to respond to our letter.
