Case Overview
On March 11, 2025, the Associated Press reported that West Virginia University football coach Rich Rodriguez was banning his players from posting dancing videos on TikTok. “We try to have a hard edge,” said Rodriguez, “and you’re in there in your tights dancing on TikTok, ain’t quite the image of our program that I want.” FIRE wrote WVU on March 17 explaining why Rodriguez’s directive violates his players’ First Amendment rights and asking the university to clarify to the team that such expression cannot be prohibited.
