University of Pennsylvania: University Launches Investigation Into Professor for Social Media Posts Celebrating Accused Assassin

After Penn Professor Julia Alekseyeva took to social media on December 9 in support of Luigi Mangione, the alleged assassin of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, the X account LibsOfTikTok, members of the public, and congressmen called on Penn to terminate her employment. On December 16, Rep. Dan Meuser told a Harrisburg radio station that Penn had opened an investigation into Alekseyeva. FIRE wrote Penn on December 17, explaining that Alekseyeva’s posts are protected by Penn’s commitments to free speech and urging it to end the investigation into Alekseyeva.
