Case Overview
FIRE Victory closed
The University of California, San Diego, organized a Fall 2022 orientation program limited to students and families of students who identify as Black, Latinx, or Native American. On August 2, FIRE wrote to UCSD explaining that segregated educational programs, which have been illegal for decades, remain so regardless of which racial groups may benefit or any ostensibly good intentions. UCSD can provide educational resources to students from historically marginalized communities without banning students of other races from accessing those same resources. On August 13, UCSD confirmed all students could participate in the orientation program and updated the event page.
