University of Alabama: Instructor Removed After Controversial Remarks About Trump Assassination Attempt
Cases
University of Alabama
Case Overview
University of Alabama instructor Jennifer Collins posted on her Facebook profile a comment asserting the attempted assassination of Donald Trump was staged and Trump “had it coming.” After a news outlet published the Facebook post, UA removed Collins from its website and confirmed Collins was no longer employed there. FIRE wrote UA on July 26, explaining that the First Amendment protects vitriol about public figures and rhetorical hyperbole that references violence and urging UA to reinstate Collins to her teaching position.
