New York University: University Suspends Faculty Member for Denial of Hamas War Crimes

On January, 25, 2024, New York University announced it had suspended and was investigating adjunct professor Amin Husain for comments he made at a December 7, 2023 teach-in at The New School. At the teach-in, Husain denied reports about Hamas’s alleged war crimes in Israel on October 7 by saying that “we know it isn’t true,” and also described New York City as a “Zionist City.” FIRE wrote NYU on Feb. 2 urging the school to reinstate Husain and refrain from punishing faculty for political commentary protected by the university’s free speech policies.
