Massachusetts Institute of Technology: FIRE and MIT Free Speech Alliance Offer Guidance on Policy Reform

On Jan. 3, 2024, MIT president Sally Kornbluth announced that she and Faculty Chair Mary Fuller would launch a new Committee on Academic Freedom and Campus Expression. The group would focus immediately on “examining policy areas to ensure that we all understand the rules and our responsibilities as members of the MIT community.” FIRE and the MIT Free Speech Alliance wrote Kornbluth on Jan. 26 offering joint assistance in reviewing and crafting policies in a way that ensures the expressive rights of faculty and staff.
