Elizabethtown College: TPUSA Chapter Sanctioned for ‘Fraudulent’ Statement in Online Fundraiser

In fall 2021, members of the Elizabethtown College Turning Point USA chapter planned to attend a national TPUSA conference. Etown sanctioned the chapter for an assertedly “fraudulent” statement that group members made in an online fundraiser based on their objectively reasonable interpretation of college policy, namely that the college was unwilling to fund the trip. FIRE wrote to Etown on February 24 and March 21, 2022, explaining that the statement was not fraudulent, and Etown’s punishment of TPUSA and subsequent refusal to hear the group’s appeal violated the college’s promises of free expression and due process.
