In December 2024, East Tennessee State University began requiring attendees of its annual Fletcher Exhibit, which featured pieces depicting prominent conservative politicians alongside swastikas, Nazis, anti-Semitic slogans, and Ku Klux Klan hooded white robes, to forgo their anonymity by signing a waiver to view the artwork. On December 4, FIRE joined the National Coalition Against Censorship in a joint letter encouraging ETSU to allow exhibit attendees to view the works without giving up anonymity.
