Drake University: Student Senate Denies Recognition to Conservative Student Group, Citing ‘Harmful’ Views

On March 24, 2022, for the third time in the past six years, Drake University’s Student Senate denied recognition to a Turning Point USA chapter based on the group’s viewpoint. Some senators called TPUSA’s beliefs “harmful” and said the group makes students “uncomfortable and frightened.” On May 11, FIRE wrote Drake to call on administrators to honor the free expression commitments the university makes to students by granting TPUSA recognition.
