UPDATE: Wisconsin Supreme Court agrees to hear appeal from fired Marquette University professor

Last week, the Wisconsin Supreme Court agreed to hear an appeal by Professor John McAdams in his lawsuit against Marquette University. McAdams was fired by Marquette for criticizing a graduate instructor on his personal blog. McAdams’ lawyers petitioned Wisconsin’s highest court to hear the case, bypassing the intermediate appellate court. FIRE filed an amicus curiae brief in support of the petition.
Following the dismissal of McAdams’ case by the Milwaukee County Circuit Court, FIRE hopes that the Wisconsin Supreme Court’s willingness to hear the case indicates its appreciation of the case’s importance to free expression and academic freedom on Wisconsin’s college and university campuses. We will continue to keep readers updated on the progress of McAdams’ appeal.
