Introducing FIRE Legal Intern Vanessa Miller
FIRE is excited to introduce you to some new faces this week! First up is Vanessa Miller, one of our summer 2016 legal interns.
Vanessa just completed her first year of law school at The Pennsylvania State University, Penn State Law, and is beginning a joint J.D./Ph.D. degree in higher education come fall. She is currently interested in constitutional issues on college campuses as well as ancient Greek ethics.
Vanessa comes from Miami, Florida and is Cuban-American. She has an undergraduate degree in philosophy from the University of Florida and a master’s degree in philosophy and education from Teachers College, Columbia University. Her master’s thesis, Education Not for Sale: A Socratic and Stoic Defense of Flourishing, defends a liberal arts education amid political opposition.
She serves as Vice President of the Latino/a Law Student Association, as the Auction Chair for the Public Interest Law Fund, and on the First Amendment Committee of the ABA Section of Civil Rights and Social Justice Law Student Committee. Vanessa previously completed a civil rights internship with the New York State Attorney General’s Civil Rights Bureau in New York City and published articles about campus life and college choice on USA TODAY College.
In her free time, Vanessa likes to try new coffee and dessert shops, and she has made it a personal challenge to visit as many college campuses across the country as she can. To date, she has seen almost 50 campuses and has an unnecessarily large collection of university apparel.
Please join us in welcoming Vanessa to FIRE! Check back all this week for more new additions to the FIRE family.
