FIRE welcomes Sandy Leong to board of directors

FIRE is excited to announce that designer, philanthropist, and free speech advocate Sandy Leong has joined our board of directors.
Sandy’s sense of civic responsibility shines through in her creative and philanthropic ventures. In 2009, she founded Sandy Leong Fine Jewelry, a New York City-based jewelry business through which she designs pieces inspired by the natural world using sustainably sourced materials.
Sandy also plays an active role in the governance of a number of mission-driven organizations. She has been a board member of the Center for the Rights of Abused Children since its inception. She is also a board member of the National Museum of Mathematics and Boys & Girls Aid, a nonprofit dedicated to finding secure long-term families for foster children.
“Sandy is dedicated to advancing causes she believes in, and we’re thrilled that free speech is among them,” said FIRE President and CEO Greg Lukianoff. “As we continue growing into America’s premier defender of free expression, we know her insight and dedication will help us steer FIRE — and all that it stands for — toward a bright future.”
An enthusiastic supporter of free speech, Sandy has been a member of FIRE’s Ember Club since 2002 along with her husband Bob Gelfond, also a friend of liberty, who serves on the board of the Institute for Justice and of the Cato Institute.
“As a longtime supporter it is my honor to serve on the board,” said Sandy. “I’m looking forward to what FIRE is going to accomplish in the coming years!”
