First Amendment News (FAN) Returns!
Welcome back to First Amendment News (FAN), the weekly update of news concerning freedom of speech, press, assembly, and petition. FAN’s first issue was posted on February 10, 2014. Since then, 200 regularly scheduled weekly issues of FAN were posted on the Concurring Opinions website. (You can read the last post here.)
Starting with the next post (#201), FAN will be hosted and supported by the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) and available on its website.
FIRE’s sponsorship of FAN comes with a guarantee of editorial independence. FAN now joins the many other FIRE-hosted First Amendment offerings, all of which are free, including:
- So to Speak: The Free Speech Podcast
- Clear and Present Danger - A History of Free Speech podcast
- Free Speech Resources for Faculty
- FIRE's First Amendment Library (introduction here), including:
- Freedom of Speech & Expression Archives
- Hateful Speech Archives
- Freedom of Religion Archives
- The History of Free Speech Timeline
- The First Amendment Salons (video)
FAN will continue to highlight free expression news concerning judicial decisions, new and proposed laws, scholarship (books and articles), podcasts, blogs, YouTube offerings, events, and conferences.
As before, and again with this issue, FAN will from time to time post original and timely essays on varied topics from various perspectives, and will likewise sometimes post exchanges among First Amendment experts (see, here).
FAN will continue to strive to be a fair broker, consistent with the notion that the best ideas are the best-tested ones.
Finally, if you have a news item you wish to share with us, please e-mail it to: rklc@thefire.org.
