Harassment Policies (Learn More)

Yellow light: Student Handbook: Code of Conduct- Assault-Verbal 12-13

No student shall engage in verbal assaultive
behavior or communicate the intent to engage in assaultive
behaviors (including written or electronic transmissions), verbal
threats, self-destructive behaviors or gestures or other conduct to
cause danger to the personal, mental or physical health, safety or
welfare of members of the University community or visitors to
the campus.

Green light: Student Handbook: Code of Conduct- Stalking/Harassment 12-13

No student shall engage in any
conduct involving harassment of another individual that would
cause a reasonable person to feel terrorized, frightened,
intimidated, threatened, harassed, or molested, or that actually
causes the victim to feel terrorized, frightened, intimidated,
threatened, harassed, or molested.

Yellow light: Student Handbook: Anti-Harassment/Discrimination Policy 12-13

The law defines "sexual harassment" as unwelcome sexual advances,
request for sexual favors, or verbal or physical conduct of a sexual
nature when (a) submission to or rejection of such advances,
requests or conduct is made either explicitly or implicitly a term or
condition of employment, education, housing or participation in any
University activity; or (b) such advances, requests or conduct have
the purpose or effect of unreasonably interfering with an individual’s
employment, education, housing or participation in any University
activity by creating an intimidating, hostile, humiliating or sexually
offensive environment. It is the University’s policy to vigorously
enforce these prohibitions.
Individuals are encouraged to report prohibited
conduct before it becomes severe or frequent.

Free Speech Zones

Yellow light: Student Handbook: Code of Conduct- Demonstrations and Assemblages 12-13

Students have the right to assemble lawfully and express their concerns in ways that do not interfere with others or with the normal functions of the university. Demonstrations and assemblages on the campus must be held in such a place and manner so that the public peace of the campus is maintained. The Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, or the University Police, is authorized by the university to advise an assemblage or demonstration that they are violating the public peace of the campus.

Posting Policies

Yellow light: SVSU General Posting Policies 12-13

Guidelines for Fliers and Poster Boards: ... Must be in good taste, free from profanity, nudity, or sexually suggestive graphics/phrasing. ... Cannot include discriminatory or derogatory statements or graphics.
Student organizations, individuals, departments and offices found to be in violation of this policy may have
their posting privileges revoked. Disciplinary action through the Code of Student Conduct may be pursued
if a student or student organization violates any part of the posting policy.
Flyers and posters are temporary advertising and communication tools used by students, registered
student organizations, University departments and other approved groups at Saginaw Valley State
University for non-commercial purposes. Approval must be obtained by Student Life by submitting a
General Posting Request Form. Student Life staff will approve and post all materials.
