Yellow light: Code of Student Conduct: Anti-Discrimination Policy and Procedures- Racial Harassment 12-13

A single offensive remark, however hurtful, may not constitute racial harassment. Nevertheless, the University strongly disapproves of any such conduct, and will take action.
It is the policy of Nicholls State University that no member of the academic community may
harass another member on the basis of his or her race. Disparaging remarks, the use of offensive
epithets, general statements about racial characteristics, etc., constitute harassing conduct when:
* They are unwelcome;
* They are repeated frequently;
* They imply a discriminatory attitude or hostility towards an individual because of his or
her race or towards an entire racial group; * They are so severely abusive and repeated so often as to create an atmosphere of hostility;
* They have either the purpose or the effect of interfering with the victim's academic or
work performance or creating an intimidating, hostile, or offensive learning or work
environment.

Red light: Code of Student Conduct: Anti-Discrimination Policy and Procedures- Sexual Harassment 12-13

It is the policy of Nicholls State University that no member of the academic community may
sexually harass another. Sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, disparaging remarks and other
conduct of a sexual nature constitute harassment when: (one or more of the following)
* They are unwelcome;
* They are made under circumstances implying that one's response might affect academic
or personnel decisions that are subject to the influence of the person making such proposals;
* Such conduct is persistently abusive of others and implies a discriminatory attitude or
hostility toward their personal or professional interests because of sex; or
* Such conduct has the purpose or effect of unreasonably interfering with an individual's
academic or work performance or creating an intimidating, hostile, or offensive learning
or work environment.
* Examples of such conduct include unwanted touching, repeated negative comments
about the abilities of one sex or another, repeated personal questions of a sexual nature,
repeated sexually oriented comments about an individual's appearance.

Yellow light: Code of Student Conduct: Acts Constituting Sanctionable Misconduct 12-13

Verbal abuse in the form of "fighting words" or words directed at an individual, which
tend to excite an immediate breach of the peace.
The willful, malicious or repeated harassment and/or following of another person that would cause a reasonable person to feel alarmed or to suffer emotional distress.

Red light: Residence Life Handbook: Inappropriate and/or Disruptive Behavior 12-13

Residents and their guests are expected to conduct themselves in a respectful and considerate manner at all
times. Inappropriate and/or disruptive behavior is defined as any behavior, verbal or physical, which disrupts
or is detrimental to the environment and/or its occupants. Such behavior may include, but is not limited to,
lewd or offensive comments and/or behavior, use of profanity, shouting or loud noise, pranks, damage or destruction of personal or university property, creation and/or contribution to situations which may be harmful
or otherwise detrimental to others, and/or aggressive behavior.

the right to property, the right to privacy, freedom of expression, freedom of religion, the right of assembly
and petition, the right to vote, and freedom from discrimination.
