Harassment Policies (Learn More)

Green light: Sexual Harassment Policy 12-13

Unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, or other verbal or
physical conduct of a sexual nature constitute hostile environment sexual
harassment when such conduct is directed toward an individual because of
his or her gender, is severe and/or pervasive, and has the purpose or effect
of (1) creating an intimidating, hostile, or offensive academic or work
environment; or (2) unreasonably interfering with another’s academic
performance or work.

Red light: Discriminatory Harassment Policy 12-13

In any grievance proceeding, a finding of discriminatory harassment must be based upon consideration of all the relevant facts and circumstances; the conduct must be of sustained and pervasive nature as to substantially disrupt the educational and work environment of the College.
Any faculty, staff, or student at Fort Lewis College who is found in violation of this policy will be subject to disciplinary action.
Discriminatory harassment includes conduct (oral, written, graphic, or physical) directed against any person or a small group of persons because of race, age, color, religion, national origin, gender, disability, sexual orientation, political beliefs, or veteran status (disabled or Vietnam Era) that has the purpose or reasonably foreseeable effect of creating an offensive, demeaning, intimidating, threatening, or hostile environment for that person or a small group of persons. Such conduct includes, but is not limited to, slurs, epithets, pranks, teasing, taunting, demeaning depictions or treatment, and threatened or actual abuse or harm.

Actual or threatened sexual misconduct, either
verbal or written. This includes, but is not
limited to, unwanted sexual touching, making
unwelcome sexual advances, or non-consensual
sexual acts.

Free Speech Zones

Yellow light: Peaceful Assembly 12-13

Persons planning such assemblies on the College campus must seek approval and coordinate their activities and plans in advance through the Director of the Leadership Center. The College reserves the right to determine the time, place, and manner in which the assembly takes place.

Posting Policies

Red light: Campus Posting Policy 12-13

Alcoholic beverages and/or tobacco products cannot be publicized implicitly or explicitly nor may they be depicted graphically. Offensive, libelous, profane material or obscene language will not be approved. ... Sponsoring organizations failing to meet these guidelines may lose posting privileges and/or may be subject to sanctions through the Student Conduct Code.

Yellow light: Acceptable Use of Information Technology 12-13

The following activities are strictly prohibited. ... Sending or attempting to send harassing, obscene, or other threatening e-mail to another user. ... Encroaching on other’s use of shared computing resources. Such encroachment shall include, but is not limited to, creating a disturbance, displaying offensive material on shared equipment, or otherwise interfering with others' use of shared computing resources.
