Yellow light: Student Code of Conduct & Disciplinary Policy 12-13

Harassment. Violations of this policy include, but are not limited to: ... Any act, display, or communication that causes substantial injury and/or distress on the
part of the person or persons to whom it is specifically directed that results in the individual
being deprived of educational activities or opportunities. This includes, but is not limited to,
unwanted sexual advances and/or request for sexual favors.
Behavior conducted online such as harassment delivered by e-mail can subject students to Mansfield
University conduct action. Blogs, web pages, social networking sites, and other modes of electronic
communication are in the public sphere, are not private, and can subject a student to allegations of
misconduct.

Green light: Mountie Manual: Student Rights and Responsibilities- Freedom from Sexual Harassment 12-13

Sexual harassment is defined as unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual
favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature. Sexual harassment
occurs when: ... Such conduct is sufficiently severe, persistent or pervasive as to have the effect of
unreasonably interfering with an individual’s work or educational performance or of
creating an intimidating, hostile or offensive working, educational or residential
environment.

Racism, in all forms, whether individual or institutional is a moral outrage. Racism, sexism, anti-Semitism,
bullying and cyber-bullying and homophobic acts cannot be allowed to exist on the campus or in our
residence halls. Please report all such acts to the Associate Director of Residential Life.

Red light: Mountie Manual: Student Rights and Responsibilities- Freedom from Discrimination 12-13

It is everyone's responsibility to create a social order that is free of discrimination. We are obligated to examine our own behavior and to provide role models for others which are free of racism and other actions which either diminish the self-esteem or any person or create an atmosphere in which their striving for competence is diminished.
If any member of the university community is subjected to behavior which
they believe is racist or discriminatory, they should contact the Social Equity and
Multicultural Affairs Office ....

Offensive conduct which causes interference, annoyance or alarm, or recklessly
creates a risk thereof. This includes conduct of an offensive nature on-line/via the
internet. ... Disorderly conduct including behavior which causes public inconvenience,
annoyance or alarm, or recklessly creates a risk thereof. This would include the use
of obscene language or gestures and inappropriate use of computer privileges.

Users must agree to the following: Respect for the rights of others is imperative. Civil discussion is at the heart of a university community free of intimidation and harassment and based upon a respect for individuals as well as a desire to learn from others. While debate on controversial issues is inevitable and essential, bear in mind that it is the user's responsibility to do so in a way that actually advances the cause of learning and mutual understanding.
