Harassment Policies (Learn More)

Yellow light: Sexual Harassment Policy 12-13

Conduct prohibited by this policy may include, but is not limited to:

1. Unwelcome sexual flirtation, advances or propositions for sexual activity, or
2. Continued or repeated verbal abuse of a sexual nature, such as suggestive comments and sexual comments and sexually explicit jokes, or
3. Remarks of a sexual nature to describe a person's body or clothing, or
4. Display of sexually demeaning objects or pictures ....
Sexual harassment shall be defined as unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature in the following context: ... When such conduct has the purpose or effect of unreasonably interfering with an individual's work or academic performance or creating an intimidating, hostile, or offensive working or academic environment.
Sexual harassment also can involve relationships among equals as when repeated advances, demeaning verbal behavior, or offensive physical contact interfere with an individual's ability to work and study productively.

Yellow light: Code of Student Conduct 12-13

Intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly harassing or threatening, in person, by telephone, in writing, or by other means, thereby causing or intending to cause annoyance or alarm. This includes racial, ethnic or sexual harassment.

Free Speech Zones

Yellow light: Student Handbook: Expressive Activity- Assemblies 12-13

1. The University permits assemblies of University groups in the open area South of the Student Union and in the area east of the Fitness Center with prior approval (registration).
Any groups desiring to obtain assembly space in any University facility or in open areas, including those referred to in paragraph 1, must submit a written request, with a completed Cameron University �Request for Activity or Use of University Facility Form� to the Coordinator of Special Events, who is responsible for coordinating events and calendaring activities. Normally such a request must be received at least two weeks in advance; even emergency requests cannot be acted upon if received less than 72 hours before the proposed starting time of the event. The individual or group requiring space must get signed approval by the appropriate facility supervisors as noted on the Activity/Use of University Facility Form. Additional information is given below
Groups affiliated with the University shall have priority in reserving space.
Nonaffiliated groups and organizations shall be required to pay the current space rental rate for the time and location approved. The Coordinator of Special Events will maintain a list of all charges and rental rates. In addition, a refundable deposit for damage to property shall be required.
Any group whose request for University space is denied shall have the right to appeal that denial to the Vice President for Student Services, provided that the appeal is received at least 72 hours before the proposed event. The Vice President for Student Services shall render a decision at least 24 hours before the proposed event.

Advance approval of materials is required for noncommercial distribution and a copy of the material must be approved by the Director of Student Development prior to the time distribution begins.

Misuse of computing resources includes, but is not limited to, the following: ... # using CU computing resources to harass or threaten others;
# using CU computing resources for development, posting, transmission of, or link to, any of the following: commercial or personal advertisements; solutions; promotions; destructive programs; political material; messages which are fraudulent, harassing, obscene, indecent, profane, intimidating, or otherwise unlawful; or any other unauthorized or personal use;

Each student shall conduct himself in a manner consistent with the University’s mission as an educational institution. Any student who fails to conduct himself in such manner violates this code and a disciplinary penalty may be imposed.
