Harassment Policies (Learn More)

Yellow light: Code of Student Life: Prohibited Acts 12-13

Physical abuse, verbal abuse, threats,
intimidation, harassment, coercion, and/or other conduct
which threatens or endangers the health or safety of any
persons.
Verbal or physical conduct directed against
members of the university community that is discriminatory,
in that it is severe, persistent, or pervasive and has the
effect of limiting or denying a student’s ability to participate
in or benefit from an educational program is prohibited.

Green light: Affirmative Action Office: Harassment, Discrimination and Retaliation 12-13

Harassment is a specific form of discrimination. It is unwelcome behavior, based on a protected status, which is sufficiently severe or pervasive to create an intimidating, hostile, or offensive environment for academic pursuits, employment, or participation in university-sponsored programs or activities.
Sexual harassment is harassment, whether between individuals of the same or different sex, which includes unwelcome behavior or conduct of a sexual nature that is made, either explicitly or implicitly, a condition of an individual's education, employment, or participation in university-sponsored programs or activities or the submission to or rejection of such behavior or conduct is a factor in decisions affecting that individual's education, employment, or participation in university-sponsored programs or activities.

Yellow light: Code of Student Life: Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Policy Statement and Procedures for Complaints of Discrimination or Harassment 12-13

Harassment, by definition, must be sufficiently severe,
persistent, or pervasive so as to interfere with or limit the ability
of the individual or group to participate in, or benefit from, the
University of North Dakota’s programs or activities.
Harassment
based on race, national origin, color, disability, age, or other
protected class status may include, but is not limited to, acts of
bullying, verbal or physical conduct that creates an intimidating,
hostile, or offensive working or academic environment in any
University activity or program.

Free Speech Zones

Yellow light: Code of Student Life: Peaceful Assembly, Protests, and Demonstrations 12-13

Any peaceful assembly or demonstration will be registered with
the Associate Dean of Student Life prior to the event. Whenever
possible, at least 24 hours of lead-time will be given.

Information that may not be posted any
time or anyplace:
1 . Materials mentioning alcohol or
implying its use.
2 . Materials concerning establishments
whose primary purpose is the sale
of alcohol.
3. Materials that are obscene,
profane, or vulgar.

Yellow light: Code of Student Life: Regulations Regarding Signs, Posters, Handbills and Other Promotional Material 12-13

No posters or other publicly displayed or distributed materials
should contain obscene, vulgar, or libelous material, nor should
any material be distributed which contains material in violation
of the Code of Student Life or any federal, state or local law or
which makes an unauthorized solicitation.

Internet Usage Policies

Yellow light: Resnet Support: Acceptable Use Policy 12-13

Browsing and/or sharing of pornographic material, or Internet chat of the sexual nature is prohibited on University owned computers.
Users shall not use the system for any illegal purpose or to enter or send any material that is obscene or defamatory, or material that is intended to annoy, harass or alarm another person which serves no legitimate purpose.

Other Speech Codes

Yellow light: Residence Life Handbook: Political and Religious Activities 12-13

Persons wishing to conduct political or religious activities in residence halls must register
that intent in writing with the Assistant Director at least three days in advance of that
activity. The Assistant Director will refer the individual to the hall council for approval of
main lounge usage for such activities.
