‘That Is Insanity’

Columnist Jeffrey Page of the Bergen (N.J.) Record weighs in today
on the treatment of William Paterson University (WPU) student and employee Jihad Daniel, who made the “mistake” of expressing a religious opinion over e-mail to the wrong person and found himself accused of discrimination and harassment (FIRE’s full coverage of this scandal is here
). Page makes the unconventional choice (for a newspaper columnist) of letting someone else have the last word—and it’s very effective. The last paragraph of his column:
Here is the eloquent Mr. Jihad Daniel in his failed appeal to [WPU President] Speert: “People disagree with my ideas and I never, by any stretch of the imagination, said, ‘Oh they don’t agree with me so they must be a threat.’ That is insanity.”
It sure is.
