Samantha Harris, FIRE's Director of Speech Code Research, will be addressing more than 100 college students at the Students for Liberty Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference at Drexel University this Saturday. Her lecture, entitled "Liberty in Peril: Speech Codes on our Nation's College Campuses," will discuss the proliferation of chilling speech codes at universities, highlight some of FIRE's most egregious cases, and tell students how to avoid similar problems at their schools. I will also be at the conference to talk to students about the Campus Freedom Network's (CFN's) resources for fighting unconstitutional policies on their campuses.
The CFN attends a number of student conferences each year to ensure that student activists are aware of their rights and can stand up to censorship on their campuses. I encourage all FIRE supporters who will be attending this SFL event to stop by our table and say hello!
