November 25, 2009
This Thanksgiving, all of us at FIRE would like to take a moment to pause from our work and express our deepest gratitude for all that our friends, family, and supporters like you have made possible.
There is no more appropriate time to say thank you for all that you have done for the students and faculty members on campuses nationwide who found themselves stripped of their most fundamental rights in the past year. Thanks to your support—whether you donated to support our programs, wrote a letter to an administrator calling for reform, or even just told a friend or family member about the abuses taking place on campuses across the country—we have been able to restore justice to students and faculty members in 26 separate cases in 2009 (and those are only the cases that made it into the public eye!). We've also launched a slew of new outreach initiatives, brought more students and faculty members on board as partners in our work, and spread awareness to an unprecedented audience.
We accomplished all this and more thanks to you.
Without your firm devotion to restoring liberty within our nation's higher education system, the future of our nation's democracy might be a dire one indeed. Because of you, there are students and professors who will be sitting down to Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow confident that their futures are again secure, that they can speak their thoughts without fear, and that they are free to challenge and debate. This Thanksgiving, they will be giving thanks for you.
All of us at FIRE wish you a happy and healthy Thanksgiving filled with family, friends, and, of course, good food. And please know that in this time of giving thanks, we could not be more grateful.
